“Emotional Resonance” Now Out in The Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy 2024

A bit of context about my writing journey thus far

I’ve known I wanted to be a writer since I was eleven. My first original fiction was a very bad Romeo and Juliet knock-off of two shapeshifting catpeople inspired by that one catgirl from Outlaw Star (forgive me, I’m not looking it up). I wrote it in pink glitter gel pen that was barely legible in a wideruled notebook that I absolutely threw away as fast as possible the moment I hit my teens, so this account is tragically all that remains of its existence. All of this was because I started writing bad Inuyasha fanfic. From there, I was hooked for life on telling stories.

This got me through childhood cancer, and ovarian cancer right after I dropped out of college in my twenties. Life was not cutting me any slack. Sometimes, I wasn’t sure if I’d make it to fulfill my dream of seeing my work in print and in bookstores. And some days, trying to aim for that goal was all I had to hold onto.

That’s why this matters so much.

I hope that emotion resonates in the story, too.

And don’t worry, I’m not stopping now that I have achieved this goal. Oh, no. Next time? I want it to be my book in bookstores 💜
